Fifteen percent of the eligible voting public of Port Coquitlam produced a mayor led reduction of services to the resident taxpayer; of those that voted a Liberal party member into the mayors’ chair,  none could have known what was to be. Doesn't less service sound eerily familiar to new tax?                                    604--942-5188    

Those that have observed the outcome of chicanery and deceitful twists of statistic mixed with propaganda, paid for by the taxpayer; cannot deny a truth of garbage odour about the home; and,  some family member has the arduous chore of sorting the garbage to remain within the bylaws written to force what most people don’t want, which is, to have a kitchen slop-bucket to empty into a greens waste container that must be stored indoors. Flies are a new house guest to many and scientific data can prove health hazards that accompany them, rodents are also a concern as they can enter into usually well secured homes through a 1/2 inch (10 centimetres) crevice when an odour of food source presents itself. They don’t mind going into a shed or garage either. Those are all critters I like to have outdoors of a home because they bring disease, I prefer to avoid pestilence; you as well?

Enforcement has been heavy-handed with the fines and night patrols of bylaw officers!  What is rule without consultation of taxpayer? Say, who chose Port Coquitlam as the only British Columbia community of where to experiment with removal of service and to test how much will taxpayers tolerate? There is no need or excuse for it!

I would simply have a return to weekly garbage collection with no extra cost; because of offset by reduction of greens waste pickup to every three weeks. There is likely a market for the greens waste in quantity for composting by the lucrative fertilizer industry. Now, there is a good revenue source to PoCo and all municipalities, greenbacks for greens waste,then greens waste removal is without cost to the people. There will also be no additional garbage to land-fill; it is just not stored at homes as long before departure. Eventually the solid waste will feed into the waste-to-energy business to become electricity and diesel fuel!

Existing Mayor and council use taxpayers to subsidize business ventures! Who wins there?

With the available technology, all wastes are valuable and competing companies want that waste. Why is Moore and council giving an advantage to Cascade Renewable Carbon Corporation? POCO taxpayers have been paying to deliver a product that easily converts to a valuable commodity since the reduction of garbage collection schedule began!

At the very least our product (the greens wastes & later all other wastes) can be delivered with payment from receiving corporations to city revenues to offset residential property tax! That is easy to achieve!

One of the important services to all people in a civilized society is community sanitation and I think it alarming and regrettable that any council would have allowed such a key feature of services to become diminished. Why is the present council with backs to the residents? Greed for money is the clear answer. You will recall the city administration recommendation to increase pay to Mayor and council. A concealed tactic; if you consider how flush with cash, revenues will be, if every home has a water meter. Why is revenue not found from sources other than resident taxpayers? One reason is, a demoralized population is easier to control and those demoralized tend to not vote while  those with reason to control council will. Water is a life necessity that is not to have surcharge. On council I will represent the residents of PoCo; no water meters, no extra costs of any kind to residents. The world is rich and there are many other sources of revenue for the city of Port Coquitlam. A major source of new revenue will be profit-share or costs rebate from waste-to-energy! The problem is having a Mayor and council that are happy to help business make money and charge residents more money and cut services to residents!

Garbage removal is but one of the key services. A trustworthy council is now most important. Just  as smart meters begin to more accurately count your electricity usage and cut jobs of meter reader for increased revenue to the power supplier; also will water meters increase revenue for municipal governments as they don't contain their spending; if a Mayor and council allow. Evidence of excessive municipal spending is loud and clear with more every year. Water is a life necessity that is not to have surcharge. Costs must be reduced, budgets trimmed, belts tightened at the city hall. Municipal spending controls are required as is a municipal auditor general. There ARE revenue sources other than resident taxpayer that need to be and can be tapped.
